Dying to Live

Dying to Live

(Genesis 2:9) “In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

(Revelation 22:2) “On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

(Proverbs 11:30) “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.”

Dying to Live

(Matthew 16:24-25) “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.’ ”

(Philippians 3:7-8) “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.”

(Romans 6:5-6) “If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

The Power of a Crucified Life

1. The power to overcome self. Key word – brokenness

(Galatians 2:20) “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

(1 Corinthians 15:31) “I die every day.”

  1. The power to overcome your flesh. Key word – holiness  (Galatians 5:24) “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified  the sinful nature with its passions and desires.”

(Romans 6:6-7, 12) “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-because anyone who has died has been freed from sin…Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.”

  1. The power to overcome the world. Key word – separation

(Galatians 6:14) “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

(2 Corinthians 6:14) “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”

(2 Corinthians 6:17-18) “Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
